St. Mary School (SMS) is excited to welcome Mrs. Alyssa Pronti to our amazing faculty team! Mrs. Pronti will be taking over the grade 6 homeroom, grade 6 Religion, and grades 6 – 8 Social Studies from Mrs. Sheila Kahrimanian, who just retired after 28 years of dedicated service to the students and families of St. Mary School, Swormville.
Mrs. Pronti has been teaching for seven years, the last six in a Catholic school setting. She first came to SMS as the substitute teacher for middle school English Language Arts (ELA) at the end of February and quickly had to adapt to distance learning when the schools closed in March. We were truly blessed to have such a strong faith-filled teacher in place at that unparelleled time in history. And, she was very impressed with how well prepared the administration and staff were when it was time to change to a virtual format and with her students who were truly engaged in their studies while distance learning.
Mrs. Pronti loves Social Studies; learning about history and cultures! It was her middle school History teacher that inspired her to become a teacher! She is looking forward to fun and engaging activities that will be memorable for her students. She wants to pass on her passion for learning, especially in Social Studies. Mrs. Pronti shares, ” I cannot wait to share my passion with students and hopefully, they will love it as much as I do!”
When asked why she continues to teach in a Catholic school, she said it was because of the family environment that exists in Catholic schools. Teachers build strong relationships with their students and parents – many of which become like extended family. She is sure that the same will be true at St. Mary’s because of the open, welcoming, and supportive teachers with which she has already made friends and the very respectful caring SMS students. Mrs. Pronti is already impressed by the kindness she has seen between students and their openness to discussion during class. Even in the few weeks on campus, Mrs. Pronti could sense the Christ-Centered culture of St. Mary School Swormville. She feels that when the teachers, staff, administration, students, and parents are all centered on Christ first, everything flows from there.
Mrs. Pronti grew up in Lockport and currently lives in Pendleton. Family is extremely important to her so she spends a great deal of time with her large extended family. Mrs. Pronti earned her Bachelor’s degree in birth to grade two Special and General Education, with a concentration in English from Daemen College. She earned her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction for grades 1-6 from SUNY Buffalo State College. She is currently waiting to take the exams that will give her an extension for grades 7-12.
Once again, please welcome Mrs. Alyssa Pronti to St. Mary’s Faith Community!
