Mrs. Hammond Teacher Spotlight

Each Tuesday evening we'll be publishing another edition of #TeacherSpotlightTuesday! This week we're shining a light on Middle School Spanish, and Mrs. Lisa Hammond! Let's get to know her...

Name: Lisa Hammond

Classes you teach at SMS: Spanish, grades 5-8.

Experience: My first job out of college was teaching Spanish at a high school in Johnstown, PA. I left teaching to spend a few months living in Costa Rica as a short-term missionary, where I helped run an after-school tutoring program for kids. Then I spent several years working as an interpreter and case manager for migrant farmworkers at a Community Health Center in Albion, NY, and a couple of years as a Refugee Resettlement Case Manager in Rochester. When my daughter was in kindergarten, I came back to education as a teacher's aide for the Williamsville district, and my first placement was here at St. Mary's! This is my 2nd year teaching Spanish at St. Mary's.

Spouse/children/pets: My husband and I have been married for 23 years and we have 2 kids in high school (1 son and 1 daughter). We also have a mini golden-doodle named Bowser.

Hobbies/talents: I enjoy reading, taking walks, spending time with my family, and exploring new places.

Favorite food: I like trying new foods I've never had before!

Something you always tell your students: En espanol, por favor!

Thank you Mrs. Hammond for all you do to teach our middle school students about other languages & cultures!
