"Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education."
- Franklin D. Roosevelt
Our 8th grade class, as well as the entire middle school student body, took this sentiment to heart today as they cast their votes for 8th grade class officers.
Students who ran for office had the opportunity to educate their classmates through the campaigns they ran over the past week, and many chose to created posters to hang in the middle school hallways for all to see. This morning they made their campaign speeches, highlighting the platforms on which they were running for the various offices available, and noting why their fellow middle school students should vote for them.

Once every 6th, 7th & 8th grader had a chance to consider their choices and fill out their ballot, our "election staffers" got to work, and the results are in! We're pleased to announce the results of the Class of 2026 elections as follows:
Class Co-Presidents: Gianna C. & Adam F.
Secretary: Joey A.
Treasurer: Kingston P.
Sergeant at Arms: Andy Z.
Congratulations to our winners, as well as all of our 8th graders who were brave enough to throw their hats in the ring. There is no doubt that the elected officers will work hard for the SMS Class of 2026, and that everyone learned a great deal today by exercising their democratic rights!
