On Sunday, November 2nd, members of the St. Mary School/ Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary/ St. John's combined swim team attended their Championship Swim Meet for the Neumann Catholic Swim League, with amazing, record-breaking results!
For the second time since 2013, the swimming banner in the SMS gym will be updated with the "Division Champions" title, & the team will also receive trophies placing first in 9-10 and 11 & over age groups. All age group points combined placed the team 3rd overall for the second year in a row.
Coach Dave Papke notes that every single swim was paramount in leading the team to the back-to-back championship, & would like to extend congratulations to the following students on their exceptional swims:
Kingston P. broke two school records (50FR 23.90 & 50BA 27.55) & placed 1st overall in both events. Kingston’s 50BA time of 27.55 also set a new league record! The previous 50BA league record was a 27.75 set by Aaron Ortwein in 1997. The school 50Fr record was previously held by Jacob Kwapiszeski from 2002 (24.57), Kingston's new 23.90 50FR time just missed also beating a league record by .02!
Isabelle C. was the overall champion of the 25BA, 8u
Xavier P. was male champion in 100IM & 50BR, 9-10
Elliott T. was male champion in 50FR & 50FL, 9-10
Weston R. was overall champion in 100FR & 2nd in 50BA, 9-10
Patrick H. placed 3rd in 50BA, 9-10
Patrick, Weston, Elliott, & Xavier won overall championships for the Medley & Freestyle Relays. (SMS hasn’t had a relay champion, in any age group, for more than a decade!)
New all star times were had by: Madelyn C. (100FR), Andrew F. (25FL), Logan M. (25BA), & Francesca M. (50BA).
The team's end of season celebration will be held at the end of January in the SMS Gymnasium - congratulations to all of our stupendous swimmers!
