We’re looking for donations of new or gently used items to help round out the materials offered in our Montessori classroom. Take a look at the list below to see the items we’re looking for. Montessori learning materials should be plain, simple, and solid-colored to optimize a child's cognitive development.
You may already have some of these in your home and not be using them! Or, if you feel so inclined to purchase new versions of the items and donate them, we would be so very grateful! If you have questions please call the school office at 716-689-8424.

Solid color or seasonal print tablecloths (small sizes)
Small bins (approx. 3" x 3") to hold little manipulatives: can be oval, round, or square, and made of plastic, metal, or wood, solid colors.
10-12 foot retractable, metal tape measure
Any "scoop-able" small items like sequins, small sea shells, glass beads (flat on one side), dried beans, etc.
Area rug in a neutral color/subdued pattern 15 x 20 ft
Catholic board books
Rolls of white paper
Shelf for math materials (approx. 30"wide x 24" high)
Shelf for puzzles (approx. 30"wide x 24" high)
Vinyl/plastic placemats
Wire plate display stands
Set of graduated funnels
Large kitchen utensils for scooping, pouring or grabbing. Multi-sizes, can be plastic, wood, metal
Small scoops
Sets of 2 small bowls or glasses for transferring work (juice glasses or other small, solid colored vessels will work)
Sets of 2 or more small, matching, solid-colored bowls, trays, baskets (without handles), and glass pitchers (1", 2", 3", 4")
Napkin holders (type where napkins stand up, not lay flat)
45 qty. of any small item, especially seasonal items like little apples, snowmen, flowers, etc.
Small objects (1"-2") with names of beginning sounds (example: 3 and 4 letter phonetics: web, bed, mop, cat, sled, clog, hand, etc.)
Wooden play farm with animals, preferably Melissa & Doug brand
Our Montessori curriculum at St. Mary School (SMS) is a rich, three-year program for children ages 3-6, that focuses on the core subject areas of Practical Life, Sensory Skills, Math, Language, Geography, and Science. Children learn in a self-paced, hands-on environment that is designed to meet their developmental needs. A variety of schedule options are available including half & full days for 3 & 4 year olds, as well as 3 half days per week for 3 year olds who may be brand new to a Pre-K setting.
