👻🎃🍭 Our Montessori class had so much fun at their Halloween party last week! They painted Halloween ornaments, made ghosts using cotton balls, created cauldrons using toilet paper rolls, decorated Halloween cookies, & checked out some spooky sensory bins. Thanks so much to all of our parents & guardians who helped prepare for the party, volunteered & provided supplies!
🧪👩🔬 Montessori friends were bubbling over with excitement this week for #SCIENCE! Miss Katie demonstrated the classic baking soda & vinegar reaction, but added food coloring to make different colors. Everyone had so much fun seeing the mixture fizz up & over onto the table!
🎃 Montessori friends are having a gourd-geous time learning about pumpkins! They carved their class pumpkin this week using the shapes they voted for. Everyone had the chance to touch the inside of the pumpkin & feel the seeds if they wanted to - so much fun! Additional work is available to students in the Montessori classroom this month that involves hammering tees into a pumpkin. This activity helps develop fine motor skills, hand eye coordination and sensory exploration!

Our Montessori students learned about some important colors used in the church this week during their time with Mrs. Bishop! They enjoyed working with the mini chasuble set, and learned the meaning of each liturgical color. Purple: before the feast; white: during the feast; green: after the feast; and red: feast of the Holy Spirit.
✏️ Montessori students have been practicing writing their names! Tracing over the areas defined by their teachers helps the students create the correct letter forms, and gain confidence in their writing skills.

🎨 Our Montessori students were introduced to some exciting new work this week that will help them learn their colors! In a "Color Tablet Survey", one student glues colored construction paper squares to a piece of paper, then goes around the room to ask the others what their favorite color is. In the final step of the work, teachers help the students count the tally marks to see which colors receive the most votes.

🐌 The Montessori snails are back… & there are lots of babies! Students are able to put on an apron, sit in front of the snail tank, & observe a couple of the good natured gastropods on a tray - what fun!
It's not too early to start thinking about Pre-K or Kindergarten for next year! Did you know that parents generally start looking for preschools & kindergartens around 6 to 12 months before enrollment? Starting the search process early is beneficial to allow ample time for research, visiting schools, applying & potentially getting on wait lists, especially in high-demand areas.

🍂🍁 Happy first day of fall! Our campus is slowly turning into an autumn wonderland with all of the beautiful trees we have, & students are taking note with their work! Montessori friends finger-painted some lovely leaves on trees this week, while grade 2 looked for signs of fall outside & learned about why leaves turn color.

Our Montessori students are settling in nicely! The children read "The Kissing Hand" with their teachers this week, then worked on coloring some hands of their own to take home. The book captures the experience of starting something new & addresses emotions children may face, while emphasizing love, reassurance & connection.
📚SMS families stopped by today to drop off supplies, see classrooms & meet teachers! All weekend we'll be giving "sneak peeks" into the great spaces we have prepared for students to learn & grow this year. Can you guess the classroom featured here? 🤔 Tell us in the comments!

🔬Our final Montessori Summer Adventure for the year had students experimenting with science! The children did several experiments, including using their sense of smell to determine what kind of extract was on a cotton ball, as well as observing how when they put a finger in soap, then dipped it in a bowl of water & pepper, the pepper moved away!
Also, thank you to the Attea family who donated the jumbo unicorn sprinkler to help keep our little scientists cool in the hot weather!
Montessori Summer Adventures continued this week with an #Art theme! Our young adventurers had access to fun & creative art themed Montessori activities, snack, & time outside each day.
