💙🐝🤍This summer, we're celebrating our Class of 2026 Bees who are headed off to high school this fall! We are so proud of all of them, & wish them the best as they continue achieving great things as SMS alumni.
🎓MICHAEL C. - Michael began at St. Mary’s in Kindergarten. His volunteer work included working on food drives, cleaning the church, helping out with vacation bible school, & Christmas cookie baking for the less fortunate. Michael is often seen at school & weekend Masses in his role as an altar server. Michael was very active on our school sports teams including baseball, basketball, hockey, swimming, & soccer, many of which he participated in for several years. He was inducted into the St. Mary School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society & is also an Ignatian Scholar. Michael received awards for effort in algebra & improvement in PE. Michael will be receiving the Pedro Arrupe scholarship from his high school of choice, Canisius High School. Michael received the Charism of Mary Award & the President’s Award for Academic Excellence at graduation. Congratulations, Michael! We wish you all the best as you begin this exciting new chapter.

🎓JOSEPH A. - Joey joined the class in 2nd grade. His volunteer work included food collection for St. Vincent de Paul, cleaning the church, & the 5th grade book drive, as well as making cookies for those in need at Christmas with the honor society. He was active in school sports including baseball, basketball, swimming, & track, & also participated in chess club. Joey enjoyed participating in school musicals, particularly comedic roles. Joey served his class as secretary this year & is also quite proud of his induction into the National Junior Honor Society. Joe received an award at graduation for effort in math. Joe will be attending Canisius High School in the fall where he has earned a scholarship. Joe received the President’s Award For Academic Achievement at graduation. Congratulations, Joe! We wish you all the best as you begin this exciting new chapter.

What a difference a NEW FLOOR makes! Check out these wonderful "after" photos of our flooring project that was just completed. All that's left to do in our lower level classrooms is to set up the desks and chairs, organize, and decorate for students this Fall!

A highlight of the year for 2nd graders is being able to take the stuffed classroom "pet" animal with them on family trips an vacations. Each student had a chance to take home one of the stuffed macaws, and write about their adventures in the class journal. Students included photos and chronicled their time with their plush friends to share with their class when they returned.
Grade 2 also holds an annual bake sale during lunch periods which raises money to aid in conservation efforts for their classroom animal. They create posters to advertise the sale & post around school, then man the sale themselves, practicing manners, customer service and making change.
Throughout the year students also learn about the animal, it's habitat, whether it is threatened or endangered, and what they can do to help the species thrive.
🤔 We wonder what animal Mrs. Wojtaszek will choose for her classroom next year... any guesses??? Leave your guess in the comments!

☀️ Week 2 of our Summer STREAM program focused on Ancient Innovations! Mrs. Larson & her students designed their own pottery, learned about language and made Rosetta stones, made paper, explored printmaking, learned about fireworks then painted some of their own, practiced bartering for supplies, and even hosted their own market with homemade goods. They were certainly busy, busy bees!
