The St. Greg's/St. Mary's combined JV baseball team ended their season and playoff hopes today in a heartbreaking, extra innings 8-7 defeat at Shoshone Park against St. Ben's. The game was tied at 7 in the top of the seventh when St. Ben's singled, scoring 1 run.
A triple by Christian F gave the JV boys the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the third, & they scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a home run to center field by Will K. Christian also tripled to center field, which helped the boys tie the game at six in the bottom of the fifth. Christopher M homered to left field, which tied the game at seven in the bottom of the sixth.
Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. They also turned one double play in the field.
Congratulations boys on a great season, everyone gave it their all today and should be proud of their play & attitude!

The Class of 2026 took part in another special SMS tradition this week; the distribution of the 8th grade hoodies! It has been a tradition for quite some time at St. Mary School that 8th graders are allowed to wear their class sweatshirts regularly to school. The sweatshirt backs feature their graduation year, as well as each classmate's signature. Mrs. D'Angelo and Mr. Kosmowski handed out the sweatshirts at the end of school Mass, and Father Tom took the opportunity to bless our 8th graders while wearing their hoodies.

Our Montessori students learned about some important colors used in the church this week during their time with Mrs. Bishop! They enjoyed working with the mini chasuble set, and learned the meaning of each liturgical color. Purple: before the feast; white: during the feast; green: after the feast; and red: feast of the Holy Spirit.

Our 8th graders completed their first service project of the year today! They helped the ladies who clean St. Mary's church and keep it looking great for all who come to pray and attend Mass, including our entire school every week. Armed with Swiffers, rags, and Murphy Oil Soap, they scrubbed pews & kneelers, dusted statues & more. The students noted that it felt great being able to give back to the Parish that supports our school so much!
Service projects are part of SMS 8th grade students' Religion class. They work together in small groups to choose several activities to complete throughout their 8th grade year that give back to others in our community. Whether it's cleaning the church, organizing a food drive, adopting "grandparents" from local nursing homes, or collecting Christmas gifts for needy families, our 8th graders always find wonderful, unique ways to impact our local community.
Students are responsible for planning, organizing and executing every step of these service projects themselves with minimal guidance from their teachers and parents. The 8th grade Service Projects introduce students to project management and help them practice necessary skills . Skills like making a phone call to a business, creating a project plan, designing a flyer, or writing a letter to solicit donations will be useful to them throughout their lives.

God, please give to your Church today
many more priests after your own heart.
May they be worthy representatives of Christ the Good Shepherd.
May they wholeheartedly devote themselves to prayer and penance;
be examples of humility and poverty;
shining models of holiness;
tireless and powerful preachers of the Word of God;
zealous dispensers of your grace in the sacraments.
May their loving devotion to your Son Jesus in the Eucharist
and to Mary his Mother be the twin fountains of fruitfulness for their ministry.
AMEN.
