Mrs. Laderer and Mrs. D'Angelo had a great Lunch Bunch with the 5th grade girls. They were tasked with building the tallest freestanding balloon tower they could using only body language and gestures. Before heading to a a girl's only lunch in the classroom, Mrs. Laderer lead them in a discussion about what would have made the structure stronger...SUPPORT! We all need to support one another through our words, actions, and prayers during this Lenten season.

đđđGrade 1 is looking to trap some sneaky leprechauns! Students brought in recyclable materials from home to make these ingenious creations that will be set up in their classroom over the weekend.... do you think they'll be successful?

The SMS/NVBM JV girls finished their season with a win against Nichols (10-9) over the weekend in the Christ the King Tournament. Mia G. had a season-high 8 points and Millania M. had 2 points.   The team played exceptional defense to come back from a 5-0 deficit at the half & get the win.
Alexa Z., Elyse R., Kaitlyn M., Lucy C., Francesca M. & Lizzie T. all contributed with numerous steals, rebounds & assists. Â

đ We're crying just thinking about this grade 5 science lesson! Mrs. Witkowski explored bulk scale matter vs. particle scale matter with students, & cut up onions to observe chemical reactions. When sliced, stable molecules in the onionâs tissues transform into a volatile, sulfur-containing gas that reacts with the eyes to form sulfuric acid. Cue the itching, burning & tears!

đ To celebrate #ReadAcrossAmerica Week, Mrs. Baker's 4th Graders participated in a book scavenger hunt! Students searched for different books & read a little bit in the book they found. Many students even checked out the books they "hunted down" to take home and finish reading.

Our students observed #AshWednesday today with an all day retreat. Before Mass & the distribution of ashes, they got together in their #FaithFamilies to complete a service project - hand tied blankets for veterans and those affected by the California wildfires. #SERVICE

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten season! SMS students will attend Mass tomorrow and receive ashes before they begin their school-wide Lenten Retreat.
Today however, is known as Shrove or "Fat" Tuesday. "Shrove" comes from an old English word meaning âto confessâ. It is also customary to use up meats, fats, and dairy products before entering the Lenten period of fasting; this led to the name Mardi Gras (French for Fat Tuesday). Some cultures celebrate today with specific foods like pancakes, pÄ
czki , cannoli or king cake. Let us know what your favorite Fat Tuesday treat is in the comments!
