Our 8th grade advanced ELA students participated in a "Fishbowl" discussion about Lois Lowry's book The Giver. Conversation was student directed allowing them to cover questions and concepts that they found meaningful.

Our Montessori students have been learning some parables that teach about Jesus, the Good Shepherd. “If Jesus is the shepherd, who are the sheep?” “We are!”

Since we had such a fun time at the HSA roller skating party this past weekend, we thought we'd feature this clipping from a 1988 "St. Mary's Press" newsletter we found in the archives for our #ThrowbackThursday. Enjoy, and feel free to tag any alumni mentioned! #StMarys175

PRAY 'N PLAY will be held next Fri., 3/15 at 6:30 pm in the school gym. This event has been an annual SMS tradition for decades and we are excited to continue it! PRAY with us as Grade 5 presents a reverent, moving version of the Living Stations of the Cross. Then, we will PLAY! Bring a few dollars for games, ice cream treats, and a chance to throw a pie, or win a cake! All proceeds benefit Catholic Charities.

Check out our precious Kindergarten Bees reading & working with one another! 🐝 SMS is definitely the place to BEE…🤍💙

Profe Maria's students in grades K, 1, and 2 have been learning the Spanish words for different shapes recently, and did an activity making sweet treats using cookie cutters to create those shapes. It's always more fun to make, eat, and learn at the same time! #LearnSpanish

SMS 4th grader, Luca Picone had the amazing opportunity to be part of the upcoming film "Cabrini", & is featured in numerous scenes as an orphan boy! Much of the movie was filmed right here in Buffalo, and chronicles the life of Mother Cabrini, Patroness of Immigrants, and the first American citizen to be named a saint. Luca spent an entire summer working on set and the incredible memories will last him a lifetime! The movie opens to the public on 3/8, International Women’s Day. Lots of fresh air and time outside were enjoyed by SMS students of all ages today! Physical Education, Social Studies, and other classes were moved outside so students could enjoy the sunshine and warmer temperatures! #spring #sunshine #SMStheplacetoBEE

Mrs. Kotlik's Kindergartners added their names to our Lenten bulletin board this morning. Remember, you are SO LOVED! #LENT2024 #John3verse16

SMS Kindergartners have been counting to 100 by 1's & by 10's, & counting on from numbers less than 100! They used work mats to create 10 groups of 10, & made necklaces with 100 pieces of cereal. The children were very excited that they could eat their Math work today!

In celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday on 3/2, our Montessori students colored #CatInTheHat style hats with Profe Maria in Spanish class! Students had to listen and follow directions to color the stripes on the hat in the correct order using los colores "rojo" and "azul".
