6th graders served as the lectors and gift bearers for our school Mass this morning, and 8th graders led the Stations of the Cross after Mass. Students also had an opportunity for Eucharistic Adoration. #Lent #FirstFriday

Our Montessori students are LEAPING for joy on this #LeapDay!

Happy Birthday to our very own leap baby & cafeteria assistant, Mrs. Nancy Braunscheidel! As a SMS class of '53 alum, Mrs. Braunscheidel says she has many fond memories of being a student here, including her wonderful teachers from the Sisters of St. Francis. #LeapYear #feb29

Grades 4 & 5 took a field trip this week to the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site. They stepped back in time to the world that TR knew, including the excitement of Buffalo's heyday and the Pan-Am Expo, & got a sense of what it was like to lead our nation during that time.

We're taking a look back at the 8th grade class of 1953 for our #ThrowbackThursday this evening as we continue our year long celebration of our 175th Anniversary. Nancy Braunscheidel, class of '53 alum and current SMS cafeteria assistant was kind enough to identify everyone in the photo for us, see below. #stmarys175

Our Scripture focus for the season of Lent is John 3:16. Mrs. Bishop had the idea for the bulletin board in our school entry to feature the verse with the words "SO LOVED" in large, black letters, so that each student in the school can sign their name within them. #LENT #LOVE

Our Montessori students made it outside again earlier today during the "calm before the storm". #recess #freshair #sunshine #wishingforspring #SMStheplacetoBEE

Grade 2 students were excited to share facts they learned about important Black Americans for #BlackHistoryMonth. The biographies included Jackie Robinson, Ruby Bridges, Frederick Douglas, Rosa Parks, Sojourner Truth, Martin Luther King Jr., Barack Obama, & Harriett Tubman!

3rd & 4th grade Boys Basketball wrapped up their season with pizza, awards, & a Dads vs Sons game, of which the final score was highly contested! Volunteer coaches at SMS put time and effort into creating robust experiences for our students, and help them develop at every level.

We know it's Lent, so don't be tempted to eat something sweet if you've given that up! We just had to share these delicious desserts though, created by our 5th and 6th graders in the style of American Painter, Wayne Thiebaud.

Last week we had visiting authors & students dressed up as storybook characters to go along with our Friday theme of "Expanding our World Through Reading" for #SpiritWeek . A curious literary character is shown here with Sister Sheila in this week's #ThrowbackThursday from 1992.

Third grade students in Miss Sanderson's class celebrated #BlackHistoryMonth by coloring, constructing, and displaying this collage of influential Black Americans in the hallway outside their classroom.
